Burt Hankins has more than 40 years of experience providing surveying and civil engineering services for countless municipalities and industrial clients. A registered professional engineer and land surveyor in Alabama and Mississippi, he has conducted thousands of surveys and has provided water and wastewater engineering services for projects that include water distribution systems, water treatment facilities, sanitary sewer collection systems and wastewater treatment facilities, in addition to managing more than 100 industrial and commercial development projects throughout the Southeast. While his portfolio boasts several impressive projects, Burt says he’s most proud of the work he’s done to help rebuild the small town of Hackleburg, Ala., following the string of tornadoes that ripped through Marion County in April 2011. He was instrumental in obtaining a $5 million grant, with no local match money required, to construct a sanitary sewer collection and treatment system in downtown Hackleburg that had to be built in order to restore the area. He secured an additional $1 million for street resurfacing and repair and to date, has helped the Town of Hackleburg acquire approximately $8 million in grant funding. In addition, he worked on projects to rebuild city hall, the fire station, senior center and several auxiliary buildings. Whether working to restore a city, helping the local high school football and baseball teams prepare their fields for play, or volunteering in various capacities, Burt strives to give back to his community. He currently serves on the advisory committee for C3 of Northwest Alabama and is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Alabama Society of Professional Land Surveyors, Mississippi Association of Professional Surveyors, American Water Works Association and National Society of Professional Surveyors.
