Mobile Mardi Gras Park

Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood, Inc. was retained by the Mobile County Commission to provide the design for a new municipal park in downtown Mobile, Alabama. The park commemorates the Mardi Gras celebration which originated in Mobile. It features a blend of formal and informal public space for large and small groups. Main elements of the park include a 100’ tall recreation of a historic fire watch tower, a high-tech interactive programmed fountain and a sculpture of the Excelsior Band by Alabama native, Tina Allen. A setting for gatherings, concerts, and performances throughout the year, the park’s activities will reach a climax each year with celebrations inaugurating the Mardi Gras carnival season.
