Wind Creek Atmore Hotel and Spa
Status: Completed 2007
GMC performed geotechnical exploration for Creek Indian Enterprises at the site of their new resort development located in Atmore, Alabama. The development consisted of an 18-story post-tensioned concrete framed hotel, an associated gaming and convention area, several parking lots and roadways throughout the site. Column loads for the 18 story hotel portion ranged from about 700 kips to 2000 kips. Due to the excessive column loads of the concrete structure, the hotel was designed to be supported on 60-foot deep auger-cast piles and shallow foundations were used for the other structures. The team set up an on-site laboratory where the entire project’s concrete and grout was tested. GMC performed Material Testing Services during the site preparation, monitored the pile load tests and the installation of the piles, concrete sampling and testing, post-tensioning inspections, reinforcing steel observations, masonry grout sampling and testing, structural steel observation and testing, and fireproofing Special Inspection services per the IBC Code were also performed. The total cost of the Hotel & Casino project was $250 million.
