Elbert County Comprehensive High School
Size: 103,000 sf Renovation & 6,500 sf Addition
The School District wanted to remedy security concerns created by dual unmonitored front entrances while providing an updated appearance for the school and a single entrance at the front of the building. The solution consisted of a two story addition at the front of the building, housing a new visitors’ lobby, reception counter, Principal’s and Assistant Principal’s offices, conference room, and two bypass corridors that function as security vestibules during operating hours. The double height lobby features an exposed structural ceiling with suspended accent “clouds”, a monumental window wall and stained polished concrete floors. The exterior façade incorporates Elberton granite panels and extensive glass walls throughout the lobby allowing maximum visibility and control of the entrances by staff. The new addition, entrance plaza, and new pre-engineered canopies at the front of the building along with a completely reconfigured parking and parent pick-up/drop-off loop provide a dramatic new image for the high school at a modest cost.
