Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine at Auburn University
Size: 100,000 sf
Status: Completed 2015
GMC designed the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) located in Auburn’s Research Park. This brand new 100,000 square-foot, four-story facility features classrooms, small-group learning rooms, laboratories and a technology center. One of the main goals of the new building was that it blended in with the rest of the campus’ turn of the century architectural fabric. Brick patterns, bonds, mortar, and architectural details and materials are keyed into the true architectural fabric of Auburn University creating a building that is completely new but feels like a piece of the campus heritage. VCOM is part of a growing network of osteopathic medical colleges dedicated to educating the next generation of primary care and rural care physicians. The new branch campus will provide state-of-the-art medical education and research and train students to practice medicine in areas with the most need. The campus in Auburn will be VCOM’s third. The first class of students began in the fall of 2015.
