Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of Louisiana-Monroe
Size: 90,456; 4 stories
Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood (GMC) designed the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) located on the University of Louisiana’s Monroe Campus. The new 90,456 square feet (sf), 4-story facility features staff offices, classrooms, small-group learning rooms, laboratories, a 34-table anatomy lab, two large lecture auditoriums, library, a 46-station OMM lab, simulation labs, multi-purpose meeting and presentation spaces and a technology center. The building design is classical revival with local and regional architectural influences in order to present a timeless and valued architectural centerpiece for the campus. The facility is located on a very visible part of the campus by the bayou. VCOM is part of a growing network of osteopathic medical colleges dedicated to educating the next generation of primary care and rural care physicians. The new branch campus will provide state-of-the-art medical education and research and train students to practice medicine in areas with the most need. The campus in Louisiana will be VCOM’s fourth. The project broke ground in September of 2018, and the inaugural class started classes in July of 2020.
