Architecture

Great architecture today is about much more than aesthetics. It reflects a larger social context, an inherent commitment to designing places that will make a lasting contribution. Within the discipline of architecture, GMC captures the spirit of how people and organizations use space, and work collaboratively with clients, communities and end users to create buildings that work well on every level, inside and out.

WonderWorks

Panama City Beach, Florida, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Size: 35,000 sf (approx.)

The WonderWorks indoor amusement park features more than 100 interactive exhibits to challenge the mind and spark the imagination. Visitors can explore six WonderZones, including Natural Disasters, Physical Challenge, Light & Sound, Space Discovery, Imagination Lab and Far Out Gallery, plus an indoor ropes challenge, 6D extreme motion ride theater and laser tag. The design of the WonderWorks building is based on the idea that many things in the physical universe will turn your personal thinking upside down. The building appears as a Palladian Villa, complete with mailbox, palm trees, building foundation and power poles, all crashing upside down into a brick warehouse structure. The illusion is augmented with various cracks, piles of debris and other signs of the destruction at many locations inside and outside. The design also features an upside-down staircase leading to another floor on the ceiling. GMC was the architect for WonderWorks in Panama City Beach, Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
