Raytheon’s Redstone Missile Integration Facility is a 70,000 square-foot automated missile manufacturing facility located on Redstone Arsenal. The facility produces the standard Missile-6 and the standard Missile-3. The SM-6 is an extended range anti-air warfare missile providing capabilities against fixed and rotary wing aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and cruise missiles. The SM-3 is part of MDA’s sea based Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense system and is used to defend against short to intermediate range ballistic missiles. The Phase 2 project is an expansion of a state-of-the-art missile testing and integration facility located in a highly sensitive environment at Redstone Arsenal. The new test area supports production of Standard Missiles 6 and SM-3 interceptors. The project required extensive coordination with USACE, Mobile District, the local Area Office and DPW. The scope of work includes the build-out of Test Cell and Annex #2, Corridor #1, Wye, Corridor #7 and build out of the associated Control Room. Test Cell #2 is a new design (different from Phase I Test Cells) using up to 35,000 lbs Net Explosive Weight and includes a grounding system with isolated cables for instrument and ordinance ground bars. The scope of work also included survey and site design including the perimeter road around the site. Additional scope is roadway improvements at Mulberry Road and driveway improvements for four magazines. New berms and fencing were added at Magazines 8378 and 8377. New forklift sheds are added at the Magazines and at the RRMIF facility. Raytheon Missile Systems used a design/build project delivery in association with Brasfield and Gorrie for the Raytheon Redstone Missile Integration Facility Phase 2. The design team includes Advantech Facility Design, Inc. and Goodwyn Mills and Cawood, Inc. Advantech’s technical expertise in design of missile testing facilities was complemented by GMC’s civil, survey, geotechnical and structural engineering. Additionally, Goodwyn Mills and Cawood provided peer reviews for architectural and electrical engineering and local design support during construction.
