CTS Software Parking Lot Improvements
Hoover, Alabama
CTS Software office building had two concrete paved parking lots and a delivery drive that was experiencing cracking and subgrade failure. GMC determined the thickness of the existing concrete pavement and provided an evaluation of the subgrade conditions. Field exploration consisted of coring the existing concrete, perform hand auger borings in the cored locations to determine the subgrade material and to perform Dynamic Cone Penetrometer testing. Dynamic Cone Penetrometer tests (DCP) were performed in the core locations to evaluate the strength of the subsurface soils. GMC recommended the new pavements consist of both light and heavy duty asphaltic pavements and concrete pavements in the loading dock area. GMC performed Construction Materials Testing during the construction of the new parking lots which consisted of evaluating the existing subgrade materials, monitoring the undercutting of unsuitable soils and the placement of new fill material, base material testing, and concrete sampling and testing.
