Troy University Janice Hawkins Park
Project Awards: American School & University Architectural Portfolio Outstanding Design Award in 2010
GMC worked with Troy University on Phase I of Janice Hawkins Park to establish a new pedestrian connection between the residence halls and academic areas. The scope included new sidewalks, lighting, benches, landscaping and a fountain. Many large shade trees were preserved in the layout of the sidewalks. Civil engineering services provided during implementation of the project included stream restoration, slope stabilization, and stormwater drainage assessment to control stormwater from pipe discharges to prevent erosion within the park. GMC also provided the removal and control of invasive plant species. A series of walking trails was created along the restored stream to the existing pond for use by the students and faculty for teaching and passive recreational purposes. In addition, an informal amphitheater was constructed for student gatherings.
