People

We believe communities are built by people, not companies

Community

GMC was founded on a commitment to community service and ethical principles, and we strive to maintain these values and extend our community presence beyond our role as a leader in the architecture and engineering industry. We place significant emphasis on involvement within our communities, not only to give back, but also to gain a true understanding of the community’s needs.

GMC is involved in numerous civic and community organizations, on both the corporate level and through the individuals that make up our firm. Whether it’s through GMC’s Annual Building Communities Day of Service, supporting local community events, or doing the work we do every day, our goal is betterment of the communities in which we live and work.

GMC honors the knowledge and insights gained from its rich history.

The firm’s heritage and culture has grown from the important intertwining of diverse legacies, from sharing of experience and knowledge between respected leaders and young leaders to be, and from decades of entrepreneurial spirit and innovative drive.

The firm was established in 1947 by civil engineer Don Mills Sr. His son, Don Mills Jr. later joined forces with George Goodwyn to form Goodwyn & Mills Consulting Engineers. The leaders identified emerging talent from within and Steve Cawood joined the company in 1985 as partner forming the present GMC. In 1986, GMC began the evolution into a multi-disciplined firm when architecture was incorporated into the firm’s services. Later, landscape architecture, transportation engineering and environmental were added, followed by the many disciplines that make up its suite of services today.

We’ve added offices, established new areas of expertise and grown our team tremendously, but we continue to celebrate our history and build on the foundation set before us to leave a legacy of good in the communities we serve.
