Montgomery breaks ground on new whitewater complex

June 14, 2021 · Projects

Summer 2023 can’t come fast enough!

Last week, Montgomery officials celebrated the groundbreaking of the outdoor recreation and entertainment district, Montgomery Whitewater. The 120-acre complex will provide a dynamic outdoor setting, with rafting, kayaking, canoeing and stand-up paddle boarding available for guests to enjoy. The project will also feature climbing areas, zip lines, ropes courses, hiking and mountain biking trails, and gathering places such as restaurants, retail, cabanas, and a conference center. Additionally, entertainment events such as live music performances, festivals and camps will be held at the new facility to draw both residents and visitors in.

“As a favorite destination for families and tourists, Montgomery Whitewater will reinforce the fact that the River Region offers a high quality of life while also acting as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth in the area. This is a game-changing project for Montgomery, and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds in the future”, says Governor Kay Ivey.

GMC is providing civil engineering, surveying, landscape architecture, environmental, geotech, electrical and transportation engineering for the project.
