The University of South Alabama engaged GMC to design a state-of-the-art Freestanding Emergency Department and Imaging Suite. Spanning 21,000 square feet, the facility encompasses essential operational areas, featuring a covered entry vestibule, check-in counter, spacious waiting lobby, treatment rooms, covered ambulance drop-off and dedicated physician and nurse stations, among other ancillary support spaces to best serve the community.

Serving Mobile

Freestanding emergency departments are a relatively new concept in Alabama, with only a handful operating in in the state. With rapid residential growth in West Mobile and Mobile County, the 24/7 emergency facility offers convenient access to care as part of the region’s only academic health system. It is staffed by board-certified emergency medicine physicians and equipped to give the best care.

State-of-the-art facility

The advanced imaging suite boasts its own separate entry/waiting area and check-in facility, equipped with CT scan, ultra-sound, X-Ray, MRI and mammogram imaging capabilities. Noteworthy amenities include a fully equipped pharmacy, laboratory and EMS lounge. There are a total of 15 treatment rooms, complemented by two triage rooms, an airborne isolation room, and a designated trauma room. The state-of-the-art facility provides care for those who live and work in west Mobile with convenient access to the most advanced emergency and diagnostic care available in the region.
