After starting out as a project architect in GMC’s Birmingham office in 2013, Tanner moved back home to South Carolina in 2023 to lead the Greenville, SC Architecture team. Within the architecture department, his roles have varied from project designer to project coordinator. Tanner has worked on a wide range of project types and scales, requiring him to be involved from design to construction. As a designer, he offers a unique set of skills, including hand drawings with graphic visualization and animation. His process is marked by a commitment to excellence. Tanner has played a key role in winning several large projects for the firm and has benefited from his involvement in projects which are pushing the boundaries of both sustainability and design. In the last several years, Tanner has focused on K-12 and higher education projects ranging from residence halls to state-of-the-art science education buildings. He completed the first LEED Certified building on UAB’s campus and continued his work on sustainable projects with UAB’s Freshman Residence Hall and the new Science & Engineering Complex. Tanner’s other notable projects include Birmingham’s iconic Rotary Trail, Hoover’s recently renovated and highly regarded Riverchase Career Connection Center (RC3), award-winning Pelham Middle School, Huntsville Future City Hall and Athens New Recreation Center.
