Our Internship Program
Ignite your impact.
At Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC), our internship program goes beyond just checking a box. It’s designed to provide hands-on experience in an array of services, giving interns the chance to explore their career interests while contributing to meaningful, real-world projects.
We take pride in creating an engaging experience that combines technical training, networking and community involvement – leaving interns with the skills and confidence to take the next step in their careers.
Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of seeing many of our interns grow into full-time team members at GMC. Their journeys are a testament to how valuable mentorship and hands-on learning can be in shaping a career. From their first days as students exploring new opportunities to now making an impact as professionals, these stories highlight the lasting connection between our internship program and the future leaders of our company.

Where are they now?

Tony Reid
VP, Treatment Practice
GMC has shaped my life both personally and professionally. My career dates back to being an intern in 2006, to now being an integral part of the engineering team. I’ve had the opportunity to work on numerous projects, lead people and create opportunities for other interns like those that created opportunities for me. I believe GMC is a unique place, and I’m thankful for those who believed in me.

Cate Grill
Design Engineer
I began at GMC as an intern with the treatment practice group, where I was impressed by the culture of collaboration, the intentional mentorship I received and the chance to take on real project responsibilities.
Transitioning to full-time the following year was seamless, and I now serve as a design engineer working on both water and wastewater treatment plant design projects.
Over the past year, I’ve grown tremendously in knowledge, confidence and skill, and I am so grateful to be a part of a team that pushes me to be my best, while making everyday exciting and rewarding.

Casey Cannon

I began my summer internship at GMC before my sophomore year of college, and I’m extremely blessed to have continued growing here ever since.
Over the years, I’ve had the chance to learn from some of the best leaders and be part of experiences that have shaped who I am both as a professional and as a person.
Working in Communications has been exceptionally rewarding, and I’ll never take for granted the privilege of helping people share their stories, celebrate their successes and amplify the great things happening at our firm.

Jeremy Lipscomb
Project Manager
I am forever grateful to God for the opportunity to serve as an intern at GMC and eventually transition into a full-time employee. GMC took a chance on me by offering an internship after my freshman year of college, something that is uncommon. During that time, I was able to learn so much and build relationships that have been integral to my career development. I ended up returning to GMC throughout the entirety of my college career and officially joined full-time after graduating.
Although I had other opportunities after graduation, the people, the culture and the spirit of “Building Communities” made GMC the place I wanted to be. GMC is not only the first place I’ve ever worked, it’s the only place I plan to work!
Intern Year: 2017

Olivia Kurosaka
Associate Interior Designer
Starting my journey at GMC as an intern, I quickly realized it was more than just a design firm – it felt like family. The genuine connections I built and the support I received made the transition to full-time seamless, and every day brings new opportunities to learn, grow and contribute. I’m so grateful to be part of a team that values both people and design at the highest level.

Will Hart
Project Manager
During college, a summer internship opportunity with GMC provided my first professional experience. The values I saw then – integrity, creativity and a true commitment to community – have continued to guide my career years later. As a project manager and architect, I’m grateful to contribute to the same culture that first inspired me and continues to shape the way I practice today.
Intern Year: 2007

April Henley
Biologist, Department Head
The thing that sticks out the most about GMC in my early years – and still today – is the people I work with. They have become more than just coworkers and that makes a huge difference in day-to-day morale and enjoyment of a long-term career.
Intern Year: 2015

Quazi Fahim
Landscape Designer
Throughout my internship with GMC, I have worked on many public and private landscape design projects and had hands-on experience on design development & construction document production.
Working with such an amazing collaborative team enhanced my technical skills on site specific detail design, construction drawings, planting design, irrigation design and sharpened my software skills on AutoCAD, Civil 3D, LandFX, InDesign and Photoshop.
This experience also enhanced my soft skills in communication, collaboration and teamwork and boosted my confidence in my abilities.
Intern Year: 2024

Kristen Hunt
VP, Finance
GMC allowed me the opportunity to get real world experience and learn the company inside and out while attending college.
The knowledge, skills, mentorships and relationships built during my internship created a pathway to my career and showed me my value and potential. I wouldn’t be where I am today without Amanda Davis, Steve Cawood, Bobby McClure and Chris Engel believing in me and creating opportunity!
Intern Year: 2007

Jeremy Doll
Project Engineer
Getting my start at GMC as a co-op was the best decision I could’ve made for my career.
At the time, I hadn’t taken any classes that interested me in the electrical engineering program at Auburn, so I was still unsure of my path. This company changed that, and gave me confidence in my decision to pursue this route, while showing me how to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world problems on the projects I work on.
Intern Year: 2016

Laryssa Molina-Becerra
Graphic Designer
I began my career in the GMC Birmingham office in the summer of 2024, where I had the privilege of learning from a talented team who has helped me become the designer I am today.
Not long after, I transitioned to the GMC Atlanta office, which has quickly felt like home thanks to its amazing people and inspiring atmosphere.
Each day, I’m grateful for the opportunity to design with purpose and create work that makes a meaningful impact, something I believe is crucial of being a graphic designer.
