On Friday, November 21, GMC held its eighth annual Building Communities Day of Service. Every year, we partner with local organizations throughout our footprint to serve in various ways, with each office taking on a service project or projects within their community. By doing this, employees get to work together outside of their day-to-day office activities and they get to give back in a tangible way.
This year, our offices participated in an amazing 37 projects and partnered with the following organizations for Building Communities Day of Service. See the projects below and hear what some of our team had to say about the meaningful day.

“We have been serving the Bush Hills community now for several years. This year we had the opportunity to partner with UAB civil engineering students and Pylon Building Group to build two garden arbors and provide general clean-up of the community garden property. Leveraging these relationships allows us to compound the service impact to this underserved community. The ability to come together and make a significant contribution to the Bush Hills Gardens is at the heart of our mission of building communities.” – Gary Owen

“I look forward every year to our Day of Service and the meaningful ways we can put our motto into action, “Building Communities.” We have served the Baldwin Family Village for the past three years and I love seeing the lasting impact our projects have made, while continuing to build on that work. The smiles and warm conversations with the people we meet, and the camaraderie shared among my coworkers, are just a part of what makes this day so special to me.” – Melissa Hadley

“Serving others has always been an important part of my life, and it was one of the reasons I chose to work at GMC. For my first GMC Day of Service, I joined our team at United Ministries in Greenville, where we sorted through stacks of donated food to prepare for a community distribution the following morning. What struck me most was how something so simple as organizing cans and boxes could carry such profound meaning. Each item represented a small piece of hope for families facing food insecurity in our community.” – Johanna Ward

“Our Day of Service at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital was especially meaningful for me. Seven years ago, my child received life-saving care in the same building where we served. Returning to serve alongside coworkers was humbling and uplifting. The chance to give back to a place that has given my family so much is truly priceless.” – Lindsay Smith
We had a great time serving our communities this year, and can’t wait until next year!
