YMCA of Greater Montgomery breaks ground on Historic Cleveland Avenue YMCA Multipurpose Field Project

December 28, 2022 · Projects

The YMCA of Greater Montgomery has officially broken ground on the Historic Cleveland YMCA multipurpose athletic field. Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is providing landscape architecture, civil engineering and electrical engineering services for the project.

The YMCA of Greater Montgomery purchased the property, adjacent to the Historic Cleveland Avenue Y, in an effort to develop and improve the blighted area, as well as give those in the community opportunities to participate in youth sports and family activities.

The project will provide local families access to a recreational area that is safe and in close proximity to their neighborhoods, creating a space that fosters community and positive activities. The multipurpose field will support sports and community activities such as soccer, football, t-ball, field days, youth programs, church partnerships and other events. The project will be built in phases, and once completed, will include a field, shade structures, a concession stand and permanent parking.

The Cleveland Avenue YMCA multipurpose field project has been made possible through collaboration with Mayor Steven Reed and the City of Montgomery, along with friends and donors in the community who believe in the mission of the YMCA. The YMCA is continuing to raise funds for the project, with opportunities to donate available here.
