On May 14, 2026, GMC joined the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport and community leaders to celebrate the grand opening of its completed runway relocation project.
The celebration featured remarks from local and state leaders, recognition of individuals who have helped shape the airport’s success and a flyover by the Tennessee Museum of Aviation’s “Warbirds” to honor the airport’s history and progress.

Enhancing Aviation in East Tennessee
Jointly operated by the Cities of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport is a general aviation facility located in Sevierville, Tennessee. While the airport does not offer commercial airline service, it supports a wide range of aviation activity, including private and corporate travel, helicopter charters and flight training operations – playing a key role in regional tourism, business connectivity and emergency access throughout East Tennessee.
The Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport Authority completed the relocation of runway 10/28 to meet current FAA runway to taxiway separation standards. To achieve these requirements, the west end of the runway was relocated 125 feet south and 85 feet east, while the east end was shifted 100 feet south and 85 feet east.
These improvements enhanced both safety and operational capability, supporting the airport’s long-term functionality and growth.

GMC’s Role
GMC has worked with the airport for more than 20 years, and was selected to provide comprehensive support on the project from design through construction.
Our transportation, geotechnical and environmental teams worked together to deliver design services, construction administration and observation, construction materials testing and evaluation and construction permitting assistance for the project.
With upgraded infrastructure, improved compliance with FAA standards and enhanced operational capacity, the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport is positioned to continue serving the region for decades to come.
