GMC has completed several projects for Ascension Sacred Heart Hospitals in Pensacola and Miramar Beach, Florida. The Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart was a 25,936 square-foot interior build-out that included new operating rooms, the sterile processing department, more PACU/Pre-Op beds, more Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) beds and support functions. These were all designed to keep the child and family together.

Designed for children

There are many features of the pediatric intensive care unit and operating rooms, designed specifically for children, these include, interactive wall murals with animals that pop up with “did you know?” facts about them, waiting rooms where children can build your own virtual fish tank and aquarium-themed televisions above each of the patient beds. Best of all, the rooms allow for sleeper sofas so parents can stay with their children. These were all designed with family and care in mind to bring joy to a child during what is a scary and difficult time.

Better care

The intensive care unit and operating room are state-of-the-art and were needed in the region. The children's hospital gets patients from around the Florida Panhandle and the PICU averages about five patients a day while the hospital performs approximately 5,000 pediatric surgeries per year. These dedicated upgrades to the hospital allow children to get the care they need closer to home.
