Due to industrial growth in the area, GMC assisted Startex-Jackson-Wellford-Duncan Water District (SJWD) in acquiring an EDA grant to fund approximately half of the capital improvement project expanding the existing 4.0 MGD membrane treatment facility to 8.0 MGD.
The project included horizontal shaft flocculators, plate settlers and sludge collection which was responsible for the pretreatment of raw water. The filtration process consists of microfiltration membranes prescreened with a feed strainer all pumped with horizontal split case pumps. The membrane racks consisted of 76 microfiltration units per unit at 538 sf per module.
Other process improvements consisted of chemical feed improvements where two sodium hypochlorite bulk storage tanks were installed along with a 14-foot wide roll up door to accommodate the installation. Minor fluoride chemical feed improvements were made to improve operations of dosing.
GMC is one of the most comprehensive multi-disciplined architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast.
