DeKalb County School District’s New Sequoyah Middle and High School has officially reached another milestone, celebrating the final structural steel beam being placed on one of the school’s towers.
With design led by Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) and DLR Group, the 485,446-square-foot project focuses on balanced dedicated space for students of different ages, with shared amenities that foster a culture of collaboration.
Common support areas include general education classrooms, science labs and fine arts classrooms; check-in and administrative areas with secure entry vestibules; high school auditorium and black box theater with indoor-outdoor connection; two media centers; three middle school and nine high school career technology labs; three gymnasiums, including both a competition gym equipped with a walking track and an auxiliary gym at the high school; and a shared kitchen with dedicated cafeterias for each space
GMC is providing multidisciplined services on the project, including architecture, interior design, civil engineering, environmental, landscape architecture, electrical engineering, geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing.
Partners include DLR Group, Matheson-Ball & Associates, Camacho Associates, Inc. and Gilbane Building Company.
