About GMC Charlotte

GMC officially entered the North Carolina market in 2022 with the launch of our Charlotte office. While the office marks its first location in the state, GMC is no stranger to North Carolina.

Currently, GMC’s Carolinas team is working on several notable projects, including Clemson University Littlejohn Coliseum and Swann Pavilion renovations, as well as the Clemson Neri Family Alumni and Visitors Center. Grand Strand Water and Sewer Authority’s Bull Creek Water Treatment Plant, Beaufort Jasper Water and Sewer Authority Purrysburg Water Treatment Plant (WTP) expansion, VA Outpatient Clinic in Jackson, N.C., Richland School District 2 Pontiac Elementary and Rice Creek Elementary Schools, Pickens Regional Joint Water System (PRJWS) and Lake Keowee Water Treatment Plant and Intake are other notable projects from the Charlotte team.

GMC relocated office buildings in 2024 to offer opportunities for enhanced collaboration and growth in a market with immense potential. The relocation will allow for GMC’s continued development in Charlotte as the team works to further its mission of ‘building communities that thrive’ throughout the region.

Located just a couple hours from our South Carolina offices, GMC Charlotte complements our presence in the Carolinas and will continue to grow in the years to come.

Charlotte Projects

The Pontiac Elementary School addition and renovation project sought to create a learning environment that not only met the functional needs of the school but also fostered a sense of community, collaboration, and belonging. The design approach aimed to transform the school into a vibrant hub where students could thrive academically and socially.
The renovated Rice Creek Elementary School will create a student-centered learning environment that serves as a home away from home for the Rice Creek community. Building additions consist of a new Gymnasium, Echo Lab Classroom, and support spaces, plus an addition to expand the cafeteria, building renovations are small and consist of interior wall alterations that make two MOD Classrooms and conversion of a classroom to offices. The Gymnasium addition is separated by a pedestrian walkway. Site work consists of reconfiguration of the bus loop to share the drive with Ridgeview High School.
GMC was secured by Laurens County Water and Sewer Commission (LCWSC) to evaluate alternatives to incorporate the new surface water treatment plant on Lake Greenwood into their existing distribution system.
The new water treatment plant and raw water intake on Lake Greenwood were awarded in two phases: Phase I consisted of an evaluation to define the design conditions, and Phase II consisted of executing the design. Defining the design conditions in Phase I consisted of population and flow projections, public involvement, permitting, hydraulic analysis as well as piloting of four treatment technologies.
GMC was secured by Grand Strand Water and Sewer Authority (GSWSA) to evaluate treatment and/or transmission alternatives to allow the GSWSA Bull Creek service area to meet 2040 demands. The Bull Creek distribution system includes a 45 MGD surface water treatment plant, approximately 9,700,000-linear-feet of transmission and distribution piping, 9 booster pump stations, 4 blend wells, 17 aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) wells, and approximately 85,900 customer connections.
GMC completed a study (Phase I) for the Horse Creek Pollution Control Facility and a design (Phase II) based on the findings of the study. This process provided a confident course of action for the utility. As a result of the project, the facility now has a primary design capacity of 26 MGD with a peak of 65 MGD and a secondary capacity of 20 MGD with a peak of 40 MGD, utilizing a 20-MG offline equalization basin.
