The Coca-Cola Amphitheater opened in June of 2025, providing the city of Birmingham, Alabama with the chance to listen to at least 20 artists a year and creating over 300 job opportunities – and did so in less than a year.
The new Birmingham landmark was booking artists before completion, creating a logistically challenging project. However, after 650 tons of steel and 8,500 cubic yards of concrete, the venue opened to the public seamlessly and has hosted 27 artists in its first season.
This is the first open-air music venue to join the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center (BJCC) complex and sits on the former lot of Carraway Hospital, which has been vacant since 2008. Plus, it’s positioned in the flight path of Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, creating a unique scene as planes swoop over during performances.
Complete with 9,300 seats, the complex includes eight multi-purpose buildings, including the main stage, artist village, VIP club, concession, restrooms, bars and administrative offices. The venue’s exterior is wrapped in rich copper-toned metal panels, nodding to the region’s red clay soil. There are multiple parking venues, including two renovated parking decks that were formerly part of the Carraway Hospital campus.
The amphitheater was designed by Generator Studio, Goodwyn Mills Cawood and Studio 2H Design and was constructed by Stone Building Company. Managed by Live Nation, the site has partnered with Birmingham-based nonprofit organization KultureCity, making the Coca-Cola Amphitheater a sensory-inclusive venue to ensure fun for all.
The venue has featured top artists such as the Dave Matthews Band, Teddy Swims, Rod Stewart, Riley Green and many more. As Summer 2026 approaches, the venue already has multiple artist lined up such as Hank Williams Jr., Earth, Wind & Fire, Alabama and more.
