Magnolia Beach Park

Services Provided

GMC's coastal engineering team used living shoreline concepts to plan, design, permit, and implement the repair and restoration of this public beach and bluff. The repairs and restoration were effective at protecting the public walkway along the top of the bluff, as well as the park infrastructure. The restoration worked in concert with a timber wing wall designed by GMC's staff, formerly South Coast Engineers, many years ago to protect the large oak tree near the parking lot and public boat launch. GMC performed pre- and post-construction monitoring of the beach and assisted in the renourishment of the project in 2015.

Fairhope Beach Management Plan

The Fairhope Beach Management Plan was developed by GMC and provided recommendations for consideration by the City for the management of beaches to prevent erosion, establish restoration measures, reduce storm damage, and protect and enhance vegetation. That Plan identified the detailed scientific causes of the erosion at Magnolia Beach and recommended the pursuit of a shoreline stabilization project at the north end of Magnolia Beach Park that includes an offshore segmented breakwater system in conjunction with a major beach nourishment project.
