Mayberry Park was originally built in the 1920’s and is a significant part of culture and history. The park became a monumental place in Greenville because it was the city’s only park where the African American community was permitted to play during the era of segregation. This park held cultural importance but slowly became ill maintained. The park was prone to flooding for nearly a century and although the historic baseball field remained, it was necessary for this park to be restored into a beautiful landmark.

The restoration of historic Mayberry Field at Unity Park transformed the fields into a premier recreational hub. At the heart of the project is a new, regulation-size Little League baseball field designed to host both regular-season local league plays and end-of-season championship games. The comprehensive revitalization features modern team dugouts, specialized batting cages, bullpens and an elevated fan experience complete with grandstand bleachers, a press box and dedicated concession areas.
Beyond the diamond, the project introduces new restroom facilities, shaded picnic zones and paved walking paths that seamlessly integrate Mayberry Park into the broader footprint and amenities of Unity Park. 100 years later the park has been revitalized and continues to be a staple in the city of Greenville. GMC had the honor of providing civil engineering, architecture and landscape architecture to this meaningful project.
