Jane Reed Ross, PLA, ASLA rejoins GMC in Birmingham

Jane Reed Ross has rejoined the firm as a senior landscape architect in GMC’s Birmingham office. Ross has practiced landscape architecture for more than 30 years, 15 of which were spent as principal of Ross Land Design. She worked as a senior landscape architect at GMC for seven years prior to launching Jane Reed Ross Landscape Architecture, Inc., where she has spent the last two years.
Ross’ sense of adventure enables her to explore beyond the daily surroundings, to enjoy what the moment has to offer and connect with people—a useful ability for a practicing landscape architect in the public realm. Her varied experience involves design and development of many public and private spaces, or what she refers to as “connecting the dots with planning.” Her work includes parks, trails, campuses, downtown revitalization master plans, urban design, garden design, planning and commercial development.
A recognized leader in the design of public spaces, Ross has been instrumental in developing some of Birmingham’s most iconic projects, including Homewood Central Park, Railroad Park, Rotary Trail and the Red Rock Ridge and Valley Trail System. She has worked on numerous ASLA award-winning projects, including the Mountain Brook High School Pedestrian Concourse, Auburn University South Donahue Residence Hall, Homewood Shades Creek Greenway, Homewood Central Park, Birmingham Museum of Art, YWCA Intergenerational Playground and Birmingham-Hugh Kaul Children’s Zoo.
Other projects in her extensive portfolio include the Auburn University Wellness Kitchen, Lane Parke Mixed-Use Development, Patchwork Farms Master Plan, City of Mobile Three Mile Creek Trail, Pepper Place Landscape Improvements, UAB Residence Hall and Promenade, Vestavia Hills Gateway and American Village Master Plan.
She has served the community in various facets, including Freshwater Land Trust Red Rock Trail Advisory Committee; Birmingham Rotary Club; American Society of Landscape Architects, past trustee and president; Jones Valley Teaching Farm, past board member; Friends of Shades Creek Board; Oak Hill Cemetery Board; and Leadership Birmingham, class of 2011. She earned her bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from Auburn University.
