Georgia Southern celebrates brand new Anthony P. Tippins Family Training Facility

September 5, 2023 · Projects, Announcements

Georgia Southern’s Anthony P. Tippins Family Training Facility was officially dedicated last Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony as part of the opening weekend of Georgia Southern Football.

The new facility will soon be used by all 17 Eagle athletic programs, as well as being a new spot for the community to tailgate on gamedays. GMC designed the athletic facility, providing conceptual and schematic design plans, elevations, renderings, promotional videos and construction documents for the 200’ x 480’ covered turf practice field, as well as 42 gameday tailgate suites, restrooms and storage and support spaces.

The field has an interior height of 65 feet that allows for a variety of practice drills, with the exception of live punting. The practice field also includes a 20-foot buffer outside the sideline perimeter that provides a safe space to conduct live play workouts. The north and south sides of the structure are outfitted with tailgating suites that will be utilized on game days. The south side includes 16 regular-size tailgating suites and two large tailgating suites positioned to have a close-up viewing of the Eagle Walk pre-game, with the north side of the structure including a total of 12 regular-size suites and two large tailgating suites.

Additionally, the design includes natural ventilation, fully integrated lightning protection and cameras featuring a state-of-the filming system. Other amenities included are full protective padding for enhanced player safety, restrooms, equipment storage and an audio system.

GMC served as the architect, landscape architect and electrical engineer for the project, with Brasfield & Gorrie as the general contractor. Other project team members included Maxwell-Reddick and Associates, Inc., Method Engineering Group, Tharpe Engineering Group and Wood.
