Lanett Municipal Airport
Lanett, Alabama
GMC provided airport planning, engineering, and environmental services for various projects at the Lanett Municipal Airport. Such projects included the Environmental Assessment (EA) for a new runway. The team conducted an EA to examine the potential direct effects, indirect effects and cumulative effects on the environment, including social, cultural, economic, and natural resources, for the construction of a new runway at the airport. This involved close coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration, FEMA, Corps of Engineers and ALDOT and other state agencies. A Runway Justification Study was performed to determine the need for a new runway at the airport, as well as a Runway Feasibility Study to investigate the options associated with the need for a new runway at the airport. The projects necessitated land acquisition, so the GMC team assisted the City with land acquisition issues in order to own and control the existing Runway Protection Zone and comply with state and federal regulations. Other projects included the design and construction administration for the pavement overlay of the main aircraft parking apron, as well as the design and construction administration for the full replacement of the runway and taxiway lighting. Electrical improvements included new rotating beacon and windcone.
