ALDI opens regional headquarters and distribution center in Loxley

February 6, 2023 · Projects

ALDI, a discount supermarket chain, has officially opened a new regional headquarters and distribution center in Loxley, Alabama.

The 564,000-square-foot facility will serve 100 stores and reach more than 8 million customers along the Gulf Coast in Alabama, Mississippi, the Florida panhandle and Louisiana. This new hub will be the 26th regional headquarters and distribution center for ALDI, and its sixth to open in the southeastern United States. ALDI currently operates 30 stores in the Gulf Coast and opened 20 stores in the area last year alone. The chain plans to add another 13 stores in 2023.

“At ALDI, we really try hard, and we have a very big commitment to everybody we serve to offer the best quality products at amazing prices,” said Heather Moore, ALDI Divisional Vice President for the Loxley region. “With inflation and rising food costs, we all read the news, we know that, that message is more important today than it has ever been. And that fuels our expansion throughout the U.S. We’re continuing to expand coast to coast. But this facility here is really an especially important part of that puzzle.”

ALDI’s new Loxley hub sits on 150 acres in the industrial and warehousing district and was designed to be sustainable, featuring energy-efficient design components like roof-mounted solar panels, LED lighting, an environmentally friendly refrigeration system and metal panel insulation. The distribution center will create approximately 200 new jobs in the area and has already staffed 120 of these positions.

“We are incredibly proud ALDI chose to lay down its roots in our Alabama community. Our community is growing quickly and we’re excited to be welcoming the expansion of ALDI alongside Loxley,” Mayor of Loxley Richard Teal said. “Not only will this facility create hundreds of jobs for the hardworking members of our community, but it will also allow our residents and neighbors access to fresh food at low prices.”

Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) was proud to provide site civil engineering, landscape architecture, geotechnical engineering, environmental services, and land surveying for the project.
