An electric aircraft charger is MGM’s newest addition.

Electric aviation is becoming a reality in Alabama with the recent unveiling of Montgomery Regional Airport’s (MGM) new electric aircraft charger. MGM partnered with Vermont-based BETA Technologies to bring the chargers to the airport, making it the first of its kind in the state. This project marks a monumental step in bringing sustainable aviation to Alabama and puts MGM at the center of an emerging market.

The charging station allows for quick recharges for a variety of aircraft, ensuring efficiency and reduction of carbon emissions. This addition enables MGM to be on the forefront of cutting-edge technology in not only the state, but the nation. The recent commissioning ceremony brought together city and state leaders, members of the local business community, aviation industry representatives and executives from BETA, who arrived to Montgomery in their state-of-the-art, all-electric aircraft used to demonstrate the charger’s capabilities.

This project at MGM is part of a growing national network of electric aviation that BETA is building across the country. To date, BETA has brought chargers to 18 site locations with more than 55 additional sites in development for public and private use by commercial, military and medical entities.

In addition to serving as Montgomery Regional Airport’s airport planning and engineering consultant, Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) served as the electrical engineer for the project.
